In a world saturated with noise, Arunjit Borah chooses silence—the silence between frames, the hush of a turning point, the pause before truth reveals itself. An award-winning independent filmmaker, writer, and creative consultant, Arunjit’s journey from the structured boardrooms of the corporate world to the boundless frames of cinema is as cinematic as the stories he tells.
Now in his mid-forties and based in Mumbai, Arunjit works across India, weaving narratives that explore identity, emotion, and the unspoken—always rooted in truth and cultural resonance.
🎥 Cinematic Milestones:
“ZIBAH”, his haunting short film, garnered critical acclaim and was screened in Los Angeles for Oscar consideration—a rare feat for Indian indie cinema. Featuring Barkha Bist and Helly Shah in deeply moving roles as mother and daughter, Zibah addresses the painful and sensitive subject of female genital mutilation, bringing a taboo issue into global conversations through powerful storytelling.
“Midnight Song”, his debut feature, explored themes of love and identity, establishing him as a director unafraid to tackle complex human truths with cinematic intimacy.
“Mini”, another landmark project, is based on the tea workers’ community of Assam. With emotional depth and cultural richness, it paints a tender portrait of resilience and humanity. Mini made history as the first Sadri-language film ever screened at Rashtrapati Bhavan, in the presence of Hon’ble President Droupadi Murmu—a monumental moment for regional and tribal cinema in India.

“Joy and Sorrow: A Celebration of Life with Struggle” is one of Arunjit’s most poignant works—an untold story that highlights life’s quiet battles and the beauty that rises from hardship. It’s a cinematic ode to the spirit of everyday survival and unspoken joy, rooted deeply in lived experiences.
“Goodbye Guruji”, his third feature produced by NFDC, was screened at Waves Bazar during the Waves Summit 2025 in Mumbai. The film is now ready for release and eagerly awaited by cinephiles across the country.
And he isn’t slowing down.
🧠 Mind Games & New Voices
Currently, Arunjit is diving into one of his favorite genres: the psychological thriller. In development is a Hindi film that promises to be gripping, cerebral, and emotionally charged—hallmarks of his signature storytelling.
Passionate about nurturing talent, he’s also building a pan-India writer’s lab to support emerging storytellers, providing mentorship, guidance, and a space to collaborate and grow.
✍️ Workshops & Creative Consulting
Beyond the camera, Arunjit is a dedicated mentor and workshop conductor, teaching storytelling and filmmaking to the next generation of creators. His consultancy work spans script development, story structure, and character design, helping others shape narratives that resonate deeply and authentically.
🗣️ A Voice From Assam, Speaking to the World

Born in Assam, Arunjit’s roots continue to inform his lens. His films are not just stories—they are emotional landscapes, capturing moments that are culturally specific yet universally human.
“Cinema is where I find the courage to explore what scares me, what moves me, what I don’t yet understand,” Arunjit shares. “And in doing so, I find connection—with myself, and with the world.”
Whether on set or in a script lab, Arunjit Borah is committed to one mission: telling meaningful stories with bold honesty and cinematic grace—stories that don’t just entertain, but illuminate.
