Taekwondo Trailblazer Shreepada R. Rao Sets National Benchmark in Martial Arts Coaching and Youth Empowerment

Belagavi, Karnataka: In a remarkable journey that blends martial discipline, educational reform, and rural upliftment, Taekwondo Master Shreepada R. Rao has emerged as a national icon in the field of martial arts and youth development. A 4th Dan Kukkiwon-certified black belt and an influential figure within the Taekwondo Federation of India (TFI), Master Rao’s impact has transcended the dojang, shaping lives, policies, and sporting platforms across India.

Foundations of a Legacy

Rao began his martial arts training at age 9, advancing through Karate (Shito Ryu and Shotokan) before discovering his calling in Taekwondo at 16. Trained under Grand Master Subhash Yadav, he developed a deep commitment to the tenets of Taekwondo: integrity, perseverance, indomitable spirit, courtesy, and self-control.

In 2012, he launched Rao’s Yuva Academy in Belagavi District, Karnataka — a humble beginning that has today evolved into an ISO-certified training and educational institution affiliated with TFI and supported by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

National Contributions and Milestones

  • Over 650 Medals: Rao’s students have earned distinctions at state, national, and international levels.

  • Official Roles: Serving as a competition planner, technical operator, and central scorer at events like CM Cup, KIUG, and Khelo India Youth Games.

  • Curriculum Contributor: Introduced Taekwondo as part of Rani Channamma University‘s physical education curriculum (2014–2017).

  • Event Organizer: Founder of Karavali and Konkan Taekwondo Championships, expanding access to martial arts in coastal India.

A Vision for the Future

Currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Sports Administration & Management from East Bridge University, Paris, Rao is focused on digitalizing training, creating structured martial arts curricula for schools, and lobbying for Taekwondo to be included in more university and government sports programs across India.

He envisions a future where every Indian child, rural or urban, has the confidence, fitness, and discipline to compete on the world stage — not just as athletes, but as empowered citizens.
